Suggestions For Designing A Website Accessible To All

One of the biggest problems for web designers is the inability to go beyond their creativity and focus on the functionality of their website. Often you see pages that blow your mind but are of little use to the visitor, the person for whom the website is designed.

The purpose of a website is to draw attention to something and direct traffic to something, to your written words or to a product and service you sell.

It is not intended to express your artistic freedom, as there is often a price to pay if pages load slowly or if the site conflicts with most browsers and operating systems we use on personal devices that have grown beyond laptops and PCs. This article offers some suggestions on how to make your website more functional and attractive to all visitors, which will increase traffic and hopefully revenue.

One of the biggest mistakes a web designer can make is to use large images. You have to keep in mind that many people use smaller laptops, tablets and phones, which have problems solving large graphics and can take forever to load. People have a busy schedule and simply don't want to wait for images to load or for their operators to reduce the size of the page to fit on a smaller screen.

Always choose graphics that are appropriate for your content. This means that images or videos must be related to the theme of the site. You don't want a large image of the New York skyline to take forever to load when your site is about baking cakes. Videos are fine, but they should always be hosted elsewhere, such as on YouTube, with a link on the website. Most video hosting sites have applications for handheld devices, which means that your site loads quickly and the application displays the video immediately, without you having to worry about the impact on your site.

Moving images are fun, but they've become useless and cause loading problems. If you've already created a .gif file, it takes longer than cutting a video clip to the desired length and playing it automatically. Another problem with movies is that they actually consume a large amount of memory that many people forget. With portable devices this can be a big problem and even lock the device. Moving images simply don't bring any benefit to your website and should be avoided because of the problems associated with using them.

Avoid making your website too fancy. You should simply use standard layouts, because your content will achieve the goals of your website, not a nice page.

Finally, try to stick to two types of standard fonts. Fonts are fine and can add character to your website, but different browsers and operating systems on mobile devices only recognize standard fonts. You don't want to lose customers because the fancy font you choose conflicts with their tablet or phone.

Your website will certainly work in most devices if you follow the tips above. If you keep it simple, you can expect your micro niche to grow with the functionality of your website and you will have more time to produce quality content to generate revenue and interest.

It is not easy to find the right web developer, but finding someone who can carry out your efforts can be very useful for your business. Thrive Design is a customer-centric seattle web design agency. Contact us today to find out how we can elevate your business online!
